KBFM

KBFM was first launched back in 1995 from the garden shed in the village. It was dreamt up by Kenneth with some help from Brian to help pass the time while they were in their garden.

It was so, popular and had at least a handful of listeners it last all of 5 weeks broadcast.

Technology was still in it’s infancy so they resorted to an old keyboard, a bass guitar and a grammar phone record player.

Recordings were kept on the archive so we can (enjoy?) listening to the chatter. They were joined by the legendary Derek & Don, the local Compact Disc experts on a popular weekly slot where they introduced a new type of music to the hosts. Little Tommy swung by the shed on his way home from school to read the weather report, accuracy was always an essential part of this segment. Quentin Thistlethwaite visited from time to time, a visual comic, hugely entertaining and later on they were joined by Cooookery expert Billy Onions, passing his wyze words on the likes of fat. For one week only Eddie Goode joined the ever growing team with the travel report although this was short lived.

The Music

The music was a very dear part of the show and they focused on a different theme every week, from forgotten 80’s hits to a very special live broadcast from those Beatles. The staple music was not so popular hits from the fogotten years, a sure favourite being Jesse Belvin, you’ll be humming away to this in no time!

Kenneth

Kenneth was born and raised in Somerset and began the show at a tender age of 54. He was a bit of a loner in his earlier years until meeting Brian at a record fair in Todmorden, Lancashire. They had a little cafuffle over a Clovers LP they were both eagerly trying to get their hands on. After being escorted off the premises they found they had much in common.

Kenneth dreamt up a modern take on a radio station, he was tired of hearing the same old type of music so wanted something fresh and original.

Brian

Brian was raised on a farm in Yorkshire, adopted 37 times and although tried very hard getting a career together, due to so much upheaval as a youngster he didn’t complete his education and was thrown out of school at just 12.

He lived alone in a small bedsit in Gloucester for many years, he missed the country smells and noises so bought himself a tractor which on more than one occassion was escorted off the M5 motorway by Police officers.

Brian had no friends until he met Kenneth aged 52 and the 2 began a friendship, they would send fax to each other on an almost daily basis until the couple invested in a Garden shed in the village.

Little Tommy

Little Tommy was 6 when he appeared on the show, he went to the village school and would swing by just to be on the air.

Quentin Thistlethwaite

Quentin was 68 when he was on the show, he was a real ladies man and had a brain of a 22 year old man, this got him into a lot of bother from the law and is now serving time in the village prison for shoplifting pies from the bakery and giving them to passing girls.

Derek & Don

Derek and Don – mid 30’s during their spell on the show had very different views on everything, from music to politics and religion.

Derek went on to slightly better things when he landed a job taking orders at McDonalds, and Don Pollard of course grew in popularity as he started DJ’ing in the local Farmers Arms pub on a Tuesday night. He can still be found there to this day every Tuesday from 7pm, the landlord has tried everything to remove him, but he just kept turning up and is now part of the furntiture and the locals have grown used to him.

The Future

KBFM is still going strong… now listeners are in the double figures, although Kenneth and Brian are no longer part of the show.

KBFM broadcast on 105FM. The broadcast range is a little limited and stretches just to the other side of the street. Both neighbours can lsiten in though, if they open their windows, which they tend not too.
